Laser for Leg Veins (LP Nd:YAG)

Spider veins are small, red, purple, and blue blood vessels that no longer function the way they should. They are easily visible through the skin and are typically visible on the legs and face. They affect the capillaries, the body’s smallest blood vessels. Spider veins look like a spider’s web or tree branch.

These broken blood vessels can slow your circulation and lead to issues with your skin as well as pain when you walk. Laser vein removal treatments reduce or eliminate spider veins so your circulation can reroute itself to healthier blood vessels.

A number of things can put you at risk for spider veins. These include

  • Heredity
  • Occupations that involve a lot of standing
  • Obesity
  • Hormonal influences of pregnancy, puberty, and menopause
  • The use of birth control pills.
  • Postmenopausal hormone replacement
  • A history of blood clots
  • Conditions that cause increased pressure in the abdomen, such as tumors, constipation, and externally worn garments like girdles

Without spider veins, your legs will appear youthful, and you’ll feel great in shorts or a swimming costume. Our trained and expert team want you to have beautiful legs free of dysfunctional veins. We offer laser vein removal treatments with the state-of-the-art Alma Long Pulsed Nd:YAG laser.

The Long Pulsed Nd:YAG laser is designed to treat both superficial and deep blood vessels on the legs. The 1064nm wavelength is optimally absorbed by oxyhemoglobin with a low melanin absorption, triggering photothermolysis of the haemoglobin chromophore while avoiding damage to the epidermis and surrounding tissue. The module offers a 2mm spot size for smaller, superficial blood vessels and a 6mm spot size for larger, deep vessels. With pulse widths of up to 60msec, treatments are fast, safe and accurate, resulting in effective results with minimal downtime. The LP Nd:YAG handpiece is designed to treat Class I (oxygenated reddish telangiectasias) and Class II-III (deoxygenated bluish venule ectasia and reticular veins) superficial and deeper blood vessels.

Sessions last 30-60 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated. There will be little or no pain associated with your treatment and numbing is not required.

The area will be cleansed to remove lotions, cosmetics or perfumes and appropriate eye protection is necessary. An ultrasound gel is applied which will feel cool while the hand piece delivers precise pulses of light to the targeted area. When the hand piece is passed over your skin, you will feel warmth and you may feel an elastic band sensation to the skin. We use a cryoair machine to simultaneously blow cold air onto the skin for maximum comfort. The area will cool down very quickly after the treatment. The treatment itself is fast and can even be done on your lunch break.

After treatment a sunscreen is applied and you can return to your normal daily activities.

Treatment is suitable for all skin types, however, prior to treatment a free consultation is provided to determine your suitability for the treatment.

When you arrive for your leg vein laser treatment consultation, we take a complete medical history and thoroughly examine your legs, too. Let us know about any allergies you have and any medications you take. Also, be sure to alert us if you have a bleeding disorder.

Some medications — including herbs and supplements — may thin your blood, so we ask you to discontinue using them for a few days before your procedure.

We will work with you to develop a treatment program to meet your goals. The number of treatments that you require to achieve your desired outcome will be discussed at consultation. Results can be seen after 1 treatment, but we recommend a course of 3-6 treatments spaced 6 weeks apart to achieve optimal results. Small veins will usually disappear more quickly than larger ones. Spider veins will disappear in around 3-6 weeks, and larger veins will respond in about 3-4 months.
