SkinPen Micro-needling: SkinPen is a fantastic treatment to repair scarred, damaged skin and poor texture

Acne scarring can sometimes develop as a complication of acne. Any type of acne spot can lead to scarring, but it’s more common when the most serious types of spots (nodules and cysts) burst and damage nearby skin.Scarring can also occur if you pick or squeeze your spots, so it’s important not to do this. There are three main types of acne scars:

  • ice pick scars– small, deep holes in the surface of your skin that look like the skin has been punctured with a sharp object
  • rolling scars– caused by bands of scar tissue that form under the skin, giving the surface of the skin a rolling and uneven appearance
  • boxcar scars– round or oval depressions, or craters, in the skin

Here at Pulse Laser Aesthetic Clinic, we are aware of the impact that acne scarring can have on your self confidence. We offer bespoke treatment plans to help reduce the appearance of acne scarring, often using a combination of various treatments to achieve optimal results.

Frequently asked questions

How can I avoid wrinkles?

Wrinkles are a natural result of aging, but you can delay their onset or minimize their appearance. To do so, limit sun exposure, wear sunscreen every day, and use skin products that contain antioxidants and retinoids, which can reduce fine lines and wrinkles

What are the most important parts of a skincare routine?

Since sun damage increases the risk of skin cancer, as well as skin problems ranging from wrinkles to dark spots, wearing sunscreen on a daily basis is essential. Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum sun protection factor (SPF) of 30. Beyond that, it takes just a few minutes each morning and each evening to do the basics: washing with a gentle cleanser and applying a moisturiser to your face and neck.

What should I do about dark spots?

UV exposure and hormonal changes are two causes of dark spots. Avoiding the sun and wearing sunscreen can prevent new dark spots from forming, while exfoliating regularly or using prescription medications may help treat the existing spots you already have. Certain dark spot correctors or moisturisers may also make a difference over time. Remember to choose the products that are formulated for your skin type.

How can I prevent aging skin?

As your skin loses elasticity and collagen, it naturally begins to appear wrinkled and saggy. By caring for it and focusing on prevention, you can minimize these issues. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day, and consider using eye creams and other topical products that contain retinoids and antioxidants, which can help improve the appearance of wrinkles and sagging skin. Getting regular anti-aging treatments in a clinic can help slow down the signs of aging.

What’s the best way to handle sensitive skin?

Be gentle with it! Always wash sensitive skin gently, and never use harsh cleansers. Avoid products that contain irritating substances. Instead, seek out those that are specifically labeled for sensitive skin.

Do I really need to wear sunscreen every day?

A: In short, yes! If you care about your skin, wearing a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30 is the one thing you can do to protect it most. Sunscreen helps decrease the risk of skin cancer and other negative effects including wrinkles, fine lines, freckles, and sallowness.

How can I fix an uneven skin tone?

An uneven skin tone is caused by an uneven distribution of pigment. Sun exposure and hormonal changes can also contribute to this issue. Certain serums, creams or moisturisers, especially those that contain vitamin C, can all help to even out your skin tone. It is also possible that your skin can develop an uneven tone due to a buildup of dead skin cells. If that is the issue, a simple way to even out your skin tone is to have a chemical resurfacing treatment every 2-4 weeks which will give a deep exfoliation of the dead skin cells and help speed up the skins renewal process.

Nail fungus is easy to spot, but difficult to treat!  Successful over-the-counter treatments may be able to diminish or eliminate the visible symptoms, but nail fungus often comes back, and complete eradication is an ongoing battle. Unfortunately, most home remedies and grocery store medications result in little to no benefit. Moreover, ongoing treatments can be frustrating.

Kill the problem once and for all with our laser treatment.

This targeted IPL and laser treatment for toenail and fingernail fungus uses light energy beams to create heat in short bursts. The energy is narrow and targeted specifically to the affected areas. The beams treat fungus at the source below the nail plate. Microsecond pulses of light energy are set on high repetition to gradually heat and completely kill all trace of fungal organisms.

Nail fungus is more than just an embarrassing visible flaw – it’s unhealthy. As the white and pink part of the nail begins to turn yellow, it also typically hardens, thickens, and can even crack or splinter. Damage also often spreads to the skin around the nail as the fungus finds new spaces to grow.

Take care of your hands and feet with a cutting-edge laser treatment for nail fungus. A treatment that dramatically improves both the look and health of your nails by targeting  beneath the surface, where topical treatments cannot effectively pass, for immediate effects and lasting results.

Frequently asked questions

What to expect from laser treatment for nail fungus?

This FDA-cleared laser treatment for nail fungus is virtually painless. It can be used to treat a single nail or multiple affected areas for both toenails and fingernails. As a patient, you will probably feel nothing during the short treatment other than a comfortable sense of warmth.  The energy works beneath the nail plate therefore the surface of the skin and nail is unaffected . The treatment creates sub-dermal heating that destroys the fungus.

You can enjoy immediate results after just one short treatment with less yellowing and improved skin texture around the nail. Most cases require up to 5 or 7 sessions, but each session is very short. Conveniently, this treatment is an outpatient procedure with absolutely no downtime. Come in for treatment during your lunch break and you can immediately get back to work with no symptoms!

What are the benefits of this treatment?

In addition to killing the fungal organisms, the non-ablative energy also heats up the skin tissue, without destroying it. This in result kick-starts natural healing processes. The nail will heal and return to normal with steady improvement. Without any living fungus, you don’t have to worry about symptoms spreading to other toes and fingers or being infectious to those around you. Eliminating the cause is the first step, then your body is free to heal and rejuvenate without risk of reinfection.

Hyperpigmentation, age spots or melasma are common skin conditions to experience. Hyperpigmentation can occur when melanin is overproduced in certain spots on the skin and results in darkened patches on the skin. There are many types of hyperpigmentation, but the following are the most common:

  1. Overproduction of melanin can lead to uneven skin pigmentation (or hyperpigmentation as it is often known) across the skin. Dark spots – known as age spots or sun spots – or dark patches of skin frequently appear on the face, neck décolleté,  hands, arms and other parts of the body regularly exposed to the sun. They tend to be small, dark patches of skin.
  2. Melasma or chloasma can occur as a result of hormonal influences such as pregnancy and birth control pills, and causes dark and irregularly shaped areas on the face or arms.
  3. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation can occur when a skin injury or trauma heals and leaves a flat area of discolouration behind. It’s commonly found among acne sufferers.

HOW TO TREAT PIGMENTATION AND MELASMA?

We have a range of treatments that will be tailored to your individual concerns.

Rosacea causes a range of symptoms, although not everyone will experience them all.

Most people with rosacea have periods when their symptoms are particularly troublesome, followed by periods when their symptoms are less so.

The main symptoms of rosacea include:

  • flushing
  • persistent facial redness
  • visible blood vessels
  • papules and pustules
  • thickened skin

If you have rosacea, you’ll likely have redness on your face at some point. The redness may show up as flushing that lasts a little longer each time. Without treatment for rosacea, this redness can become permanent. Another cause of permanent redness is visible blood vessels on the face.

No matter what the cause, you don’t have to live with the redness. We can create a treatment plan that is specific for you.

Your skin care products and even the way you wash your face may be contributing to the redness. Anyone who has rosacea needs gentle skin care and we can advise and educate you on a good skin care routine and put you on the best products to use to reduce the redness.

Clear Vein Laser Treatment

Spider veins (or thread veins)  are blood vessels that become enlarged and visible due to weakened valves, which cause blood to pool rather than flow to the heart. They are smaller than varicose veins and are usually red. They may look like tree branches or spider webs. Spider veins can usually be seen under the skin, but they do not make the skin bulge out like varicose veins do.

Spider veins are usually found on the legs or the face.

We use the Harmony XL Pro ClearVein treatment to effectively close these veins and reduce or eliminate their appearance.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Clearvein Laser treatment helps to eradicate spider veins and vascular lesions with a unique wavelength of light. The non-invasive laser treatment uses a long pulse of light laser energy to destroy the defective vein altogether. The wave energy precisely targets the area under the skin’s surface so that the top layer of skin is left completely intact and untouched. The vein absorbs the laser energy and then immediately collapses, with an immediate visible blanching of the vessel.

There are a handful of treatment options for spider and enlarged leg vein removal, but none are as easy and pain-free as Clearvein. With the Clearvein Laser Treatment, there’s no need for surgery, numbing, gels, or needles and you can go right back to normal activity after the 30-minute ‘lunchtime procedure.’

Depending on the severity of your case, we may recommend up to three sessions, but the results are immediate and long-lasting.

Skin scarring is a common result of surgery. Everyone heals differently due to a number of factors and unfortunately, sometime excessive scar tissue can build up at the surgical site. Whilst it is impossible to completely remove the scar and regenerate the skin, we have a number of treatments that can help you improve the appearance of the scar. Scar improvement is achieved by decreasing pigment/redness of the scar and flattening out raised scar tissue so that it can blend in better with the surrounding skin. Please book in a skin consultation appointment so that we can assess your scar and advise on a bespoke treatment plan.
