What is a Skin Resurfacing Facial?

A skin resurfacing facial is the controlled application of an acid solution to the skin which causes controlled skin resurfacing. This process actively provokes an accelerated form of cell turnover and optimum skin regeneration at different layers of the skin to successfully treat various skin concerns.
Our skin resurfacing facial is targeted to the needs of your skin type and can be used to treat a whole range of skin concerns, including acne, acne scarring, wrinkles, rosacea, fine lines, age spots, enlarged pores, pigmentation and sun-damaged skin.
It is also a great treatment if you are looking for an instant skin boost. Different treatments can be combined in a specially-designed program for you according to your personal needs.

Our skin specialists will first assess your skin and recommend the treatment that is the most suitable for you. The strength and depth of the treatments are controlled by the skin specialists. It can be administered in increasing levels of strength to work deeper into the skin depending on what effect is required.
Most of the pHformula treatments are not timed, neautralised or removed from the skin, instead they are self-neautralising and left on the skin.
Client are advised to use the recommended pHformula homecare products to enhance overall results and to assist with the post resurfacing healing processes. The skin resurfacing homecare kits contain fundamental products to optimize and maintain the best possible results during the treatment program.
How does the skin resurfacing facial differ from traditional chemical peels?
The action of controlled chemical skin resurfacing is totally different to conventional skin peels. Peels mainly cause skin exfoliation, whereas skin resurfacing actively provokes cell regeneration, whilst trauma and irritation to the skin is reduced. There are no negative side effects or downtime as normally seen with conventional peels.

What acids are used?

A range of different acids can be used to achieve different results, some of the most common are:
Glycolic Acid – Exfoliates skin & reduces pigment
Salicylic Acid – Cleans out pores & reduces oil on skin
Lactic Acid – Brightens skin
Mandelic Acid – Exfoliates skin & speeds up cell turnover
Ascorbic Acid – Brightens & strengthens skin

How do I prepare my skin before a resurfacing facial ?

Anyone can get a resurfacing facial, even if their skin is not healthy. However, if you really want great results, we recommend prepping the skin with the pHformula homecare products at least 2 weeks prior to having the facial. This will get your skin used to the different acids used in the facial and your skin tolerance levels will be much higher. It is important to refrain from using any harsh exfoliants such as retinols and AHAs for 5-7 days before having treatment.

Does it hurt to have a skin resurfacing facial?

No, you shouldn’t feel pain whilst having the treatment. Your skin may feel hot or itchy when the active ingredients are applied but this sensation is normal and won’t last for more than a few minutes. If the treatment feels very uncomfortable your practitioner can stop it at any time by removing the solution immediately.\

Will my face be red afterwards?

Maybe but not always. Because the resurfacing ingredients are activated on the skin you may find that you leave the clinic looking a little pinker than usual but this varies from person to person and depends on the strength of the treatment. Generally any pinkness/redness can be covered with mineral make-up and generally subsides within a few hours.

Will my skin peel?

No, the resurfacing facial is different to traditional chemical peels due to the delivery complex that ensures controlled delivery right down into the skin cells, without any negative side effects or peeling.

How many treatments will I need?

Everyone’s skin will respond differently to treatment and the type of treatment recommended will depend on the desired outcome. But for optimal results we recommend committing to a course of 3-6 treatments. Depending on the strength of the resurfacing facial these can be spaced 2-6 weeks apart. Our skin experts will be able to design a treatment plan for you to help achieve your skin goals.

How should I look after my skin at home while I’m having a course of treatment?

You will be advised to use the recommended pHformula homecare products to  enhance overall results and to assist with the post resurfacing healing processes. The skin resurfacing homecare kits contain fundamental products to optimize and maintain the best possible results during the treatment program.

You should also ensure you apply a SPF which should be worn for 5-10 days following treatment when your skin will be more sensitive to UVA & UVB damage.

Is the resurfacing treatment only for the face?

The skin resurfacing treatments can also be applied to your hands and chest to remove dark spots or acne trouble spots like chest and back.
